Benjamin William Korach
Benjamin William Korach was born on November 11th, 1877 in Fritsch, Siroka, to Jacob Korach and Rebecca Messinger. Eventually, in 1891, when Benjamin was 13, he immigrated to America with his parents and his siblings Sigmund, Edward, Joseph, Rachel, and Rellie. Initially, the siblings had very little money but made their way to Cleveland, Ohio, attempting to reunite with other family members who had already immigrated. Once settled in Cleveland, Benjamin’s father made various efforts to provide for the family, mostly consisting of selling women’s garments. Around the age of 21, Benjamin began working as a cigar salesman. It wasn’t long until he switched jobs, becoming the manager of the Chicago Braiding and Embroidery Co. in Cleveland. In 1900, Benjamin met Belle (Bella) Grossman and they would go on to get married in 1902. Around 1905, Benjamin registered himself to become a part of the American army during World War I but he was never drafted or sent into combat. Eventually, Benjamin became the President of the S. Korach and Co., a family run garment business which specialized in womens skirts and ready to wear dresses. Benjamin had 3 children with Bella, who would be named Norton, Marcelle, and Lawrence. In 1933, Benjamin retired from the family business and passed away in 1946 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
